Acupuncture FAQs
Q: What is acupuncture?
A: Acupuncture is a healing technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that uses very fine, single -use, sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body. This process helps restore balance, support the body’s natural healing processes, and address a wide range of health concerns.
Q: Does acupuncture hurt?
A: Most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles are extremely thin—much finer than those used for injections. Some people feel a slight pinch, tingling, or heaviness at the insertion point, while others feel very little at all. Many patients describe the experience as deeply relaxing.
Q: What conditions can acupuncture help with?
A: Acupuncture is commonly used to support pain relief (sports injuries, back pain, arthritis, headaches), stress reduction, digestive health, sleep, women’s health, and recovery from overuse or repetitive strain. Research continues to expand its applications in both preventive and integrative medicine. Acupuncutre is also a tratment modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which is a full medical system that is capable of addressing nearly every health condition.
Q: Is acupuncture safe?
A: Yes. When performed by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is a very safe treatment. Single-use, sterile needles are always used, and practitioners follow strict hygiene and safety standards. Our practitioners are also board-certified by the State Medical Board of Ohio!
Q: How many treatments will I need
A: The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, overall health, and goals. Some people feel noticeable changes after 1–3 visits, while chronic or complex issues may require a longer treatment plan. Your acupuncturist will create a personalized plan based on your needs.
Q: How should I prepare for my session?
A: Eat a light meal or snack beforehand, wear comfortable clothing, and stay hydrated. It’s best to avoid caffeine, alcohol, or heavy exercise right before treatment.
Q: What can I expect during a session?
A: Your acupuncturist will begin with a consultation to understand your health history, goals, current symptoms, and any updates since your last session. In your initial treatment expect to discuss each system of the body. Then, very fine needles are gently placed at specific points and left for about 20–40 minutes while you rest. Many patients report feeling calm, restored, or even energized afterward.
Q: Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
A: Some insurance plans cover acupuncture, especially for pain management or specific conditions. At this time our practice does not bill insurance. We have found that a cash based practices provides the most complete form of care for our patients.
Q: Can acupuncture be combined with other treatments?
A: Absolutely. Acupuncture often works well alongside physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage, and conventional medical treatments. It can enhance recovery, reduce side effects, and support overall wellness.
